What do you think? – Ketzer (2024) Cinemax
While a simple formula is presented to us in films. Two girls go to Recluse’s house, follow evil things. Okay, just … right ???
But here I am 2 hours away from the reputation of the film and still think about what I saw and the questions that the film asks.
I love religious horror films. Obviously “The Exorcist”, but I also love smaller gemstones such as “stigmata”, “The Prophecy”, “Die Teufel” and “Forsaken”, to name just a few.
Now I also love the research of religion, I visited the Catholic school as a child and learned everything about this version of religion, but in my later teenagers, in early twenties, I tried not only to learn the differences in different religions, but also the associated questions. Dangerous to question someone else’s beliefs. Kevin Smith risked his career on “Dogma”. Bill Maher risked violence in “religious” and Theo van Gogh lost his life for a short film about the abuse of women of the Islamic faith in “submission”. Religion will therefore always remain a sensitive topic to express the least.
But back to the film.
Two Mormon missionaries answers the request to meet a gentleman who asks for further information about their faith in his house. We did not know that in 2024 the year of horror was and some of the best spectacles were published in films such as “Longlegs”, “The First Omen” and “Late Night With The Devil”.
Hugh Grant receives the very juicy role of Mr. Reed, and too much would be a bad service for everyone who sees this film. Hugh Grant, who has long been removed from the version of the words that we saw in so many classics from the 90s, was buried.
Lately he has been in what Martin Short calls “A Cash Run”, in films such as “Wonka” and “Dungeons & Dragons” and looks absolutely miserable in what he does. But here he gets great monologues and fleshy material. His performance is not exaggerated, but subject to how Mr. Reed believes what he says.
Sister Barnes (Sophie Thatcher from “Yellow Jackets”) and Sister Paxton (Chloe East) are not one -dimensional characters. Both challenge Mr. Reed on his beliefs in relation to their own and their need for survival.
The blood is minimal, which is the best because it is not the point of the film. The point of the film is to quote the villain from “Indiana Jones and the last crusade” … “What you believe”.
The argument is between the believers and an doubtful Thomas. The film will make you think about both sides of the argument about faith and control. Now some could say that the film falls apart towards the end, I have not yet decided.
But above all…. You will never look at the game “Monopol” in the same way.
