The poisonous avenger (2025) – 3 out of 4 stars
It is a certain pleasure to see a film unapologist table in its own absurdity, and The poisonous avenger (2025) does exactly that. The film lives from silliness and includes the wild, crazy energy of the original cult classic who inspired it. Instead of choosing the chaos back, it doubles and creates a tone that feels as disrespectful as strangely.
A large part of this charm comes from its line -up. In particular, Kevin Bacon and Peter Dinklage are more than the game and enjoy the opportunity to get rid of roles that enable them to play the size of their survival without a lifespan. Your willingness to go all-in helps to increase the film’s gonzo energy and make the journey even more pleasant.
This means that there is an undeniable craziness to see a troma property with so much Polish, budget and recognizable talent behind it. Part of what the original made so magnetic was his unapologist’s cheap aesthetics, and watching this Slicker version can feel a little confusing. While the film was described as “not rated”, abrupt cuts suggest in certain scenes that some of the more excessive gore may have been cut back to ask themselves what was gruesome material on the bottom of the cutting space.
Nevertheless for fans of the original and for everyone who is willing to surrender to the happily anarchic spirit of the film, The poisonous avenger Is a hellish funny time. It is strange, it is wild and it is exactly as chaotic as it should be – exactly with a shiny layer of paint.
