“Drops” will show that dates can be a real horror film Cinemax

If you ask a lot of singles, they might view their first date as a horror movie. We’ve seen a few films that take dating anxiety in interesting directions, whether the man is a psychopath with cannibalistic tendencies (the excellent “Fresh”) or there’s something seriously wrong with the woman (Australia’s “The Loved Ones”). To that we can add the app’s movies, or if you want, “Tinder horror” (or whatever app they use) like “Bad Match,” in which Lily Simmons plays someone she shouldn’t have met, or the recent “Succubus,” about a divorced man who swipes right and meets someone who apparently isn’t human.

“Drop,” which hits screens in April, takes the dating scare in a different direction, with a girl who receives threatening messages during a date and must complete various tasks so that terrible things don’t happen to her loved ones.

With one of the hottest horror directors of recent years, experienced producers, and a promising cast, we could be getting one of the blockbuster guilty pleasure films of 2025.

Romantic evening with a touch of originality: the plot of Drop

“Drop” begins with a story we know very little about in the movies: A widowed single mother named Violet (Meghann Fahy, Emmy nominee for “The White Lotus,” and also the horror comedy “Your Monster”) goes on her first date in years, filled with scares. “When she discovers that her date with Henry (Brandon Sklenar, “1923”, Midway”, “Emily the Criminal,» “It Ends With Us”) is a handsome guy who seems charming, she relaxes a bit. From the trailer, it seems like the film has the potential to be in the beloved “Whodunit?”“ subgenre because the messages are apparently sent by someone inside the restaurant (You must be close enough to someone to send them AirDrops). He is said the producers came up with the idea while they were at a restaurant and started receiving random AirDrops from someone in the restaurant, leading them to spend the entire dinner trying to solve the mystery. They couldn’t determine who was behind these messages, but we’re hoping the film will give us some answers, in part since the words “Everyone is Suspect” appear on the poster.

Expectations for “Drop“ stand up when we see who took the reins here. The director is Christopher Landon, who has written and directed several excellent horror comedies in recent years (“Scouts Zombie Apocalypse Guide,“ 2 “Happy Death Day“ films and “Freaky”). We remember, Landon was supposed to direct “Scream 7,“ but for reasons that are still unclear, he abandoned the project and began working on “Drop“ immediately afterwards.

“Drop” will be released in theaters around the world April 11. Universal Pictures will distribute the film worldwide as part of the collaboration between the cinema giant and Blumhouse since 2011.

It is therefore true that “Drop“ comes out about two months after Valentine’s Day, but it still seems like a great movie for horror fans who like movies with a romantic aspect or even the potential to be a date night movie at the movies.
