Melissa Barrera joins ‘Black Tides’ Cinemax
It looks like the Killer Whales will give Melissa Barrera something to shout about.
Melissa Barrera (Scream VI) has signed on as co-lead of the survival thriller Oil spillsalongside John Travolta in Renny Harlin (Cliffhanger)–film made, according to a report on Deadline.
The film is inspired by real-life orca attacks that took place off the coasts of southern Spain and Portugal.
Written by Chris Sparling (Buried) and Ángel Agudo (Prime Video’s Apocalypse Z), the film will tell the story of Rebecca, who reunites with her estranged father, Bill, in sunny Malaga, awaiting a family healing journey with her young son, Sebastian. Instead, their journey across the Strait of Gibraltar turns into a nightmare as they are relentlessly attacked by rogue orcas. Rebecca, faced with deep emotional wounds, must become an unlikely heroine in a battle for survival.
“Melissa brings both fire and vulnerability to a role that demands everything – emotionally, physically and cinematically,” said director Harlin, the action veteran known for Cliffhanger And Die Hard 2. “She and John together are movie magic, and they elevate every beat of this story.”
