Amphibian reptile and horror: episode 202 Cinemax

Atmosfa! Those!
It is a great alligator: Lake placide (1999)

Are you afraid of reptiles? Horror movies suggest that you might be. There is an abundance of films with reptile and amphibian horror themes. Snakes? Many of you. The ratings of Paris suggest that you fear spiders or snakes, or both. Alligators and Crocodiles? Probably not something that applies, unless you live in Florida or Egypt. But and the frogs? Or turtles? If you are, then this episode is for you.

For the record, here are the terms of the fears you need to know for this episode:

  • Herpetophobia = fear of reptiles. (This covers the lizards and
  • Ophidophobia = fear of snakes. (Common)
  • Ranidophobia = fear of frogs and toads
  • Krokodeilophobia = fear of crocodiles
  • Chelonaphobia = fear of turtles (rare)

So use it as a starting block. But, normal lizards and snakes will not cut it in this discussion. Big, and I mean that the big lizards will count. Kaiju for the reptile victory! And human / reptiles / frogs and humans can also be taken into account.

It is remarkable to see how many alligators and well -manufactured killers have been made. And there are so many ways to make these films. Nowadays, you can go with the real thing (daring … black water), digital (ymmv: Crawl, Megapyon vs gateroid,, The Bayou ), or animatronic (Alligator, Le BayouAnd Thug))

Once you have grown up that an alligator, you have to be creative. Giant monsters need imagination to make them evolve. Dude in a rubber suit works. Real creatures with miniatures are your budgetary variant. The stop movement was the advanced profession. Think of Ray Harryhausen. Or… puppets! That it knows that most of the time, the puppets seem rather lame. (Reptlicus) But sometimes it’s perfect (beetlejuice).

Prominent reptile and amphibian horror films

Podcast Note: We talked about a clown and reptile horror combination in the podcast, and initially, I mentioned reptlicus because of the puppet, but I remembered a perfect example: Beetlejuice! This combines elements of two consecutive episodes, including episode 201 Clown Horror!
