Cast, plot, release date and more Cinemax
There are films where everything seems to go wrong. God forbid we don’t talk about those damn horror films, apparently or not, in which freak accidents or just bad luck attack the actors. The story of “Scream 7” is slightly different. In fact, behind the scenes in which the film is It’s more of a melodrama than a horror film, and the pile of “Scream 7” news we’ve received in recent months is a shred of significant evidence.
“Scream 7” had to deal with the departure of the two key actresses from the last films in the franchise (the Carpenter sisters), which required recalculating the script. What follows is the change of director, who describes “a dream that turned into a nightmare”. It looks like someone has decided to murder Ghostface for good, and it might be possible to make a reflexive film within the plot to find out who wants the franchise to die.
The good news? According to many (and I am one), these changes could save the franchise, which has lost its meaning over the last two films. With the return of Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) and the fact of entrusting the position of director to Kevin Williamson, the screenwriter of a significant part of the films of the franchise, the expectations of the author of these lines have really increased. Here’s everything we know about the film that will resurrect Ghostface (again), perhaps for the last time.
The first news from Scream 7: the carpenters are leaving
If you haven’t been to the planet of horror in recent years, a new synopsis of the “Scream 7” saga has become more of a telenovela than a horror film. In “Scream 5” and “Scream 6” we have a new storyline with the Carpenter sisters: Sam (Mexican actress Melissa Barrera, “Abigail”, “In The Heights,» “Bed rest,» “Your Monster”) played the biological daughter of Billy Loomis and Jenna Ortega (“Netflix “Wednesday,» “X,» “The Babysitter: Killer Queen”) as her annoying sister. The ending of the sixth film, in which both survived, may have hinted at Sam’s transition to the dark side for the following films.
But then politics came into play. Since Hamas’s brutal attack on Israel on October 7 and the Israeli military’s response in the following months, Barrera has posted horrifying messages accusing Israel of committing “genocide,» “ethnic cleansing,» “The apartheid regime,“ and even “distorting the Holocaust,“ including a lot of fake news, blood libels and anti-Semitic accusations that seem to come from Hamas propaganda channels, sharing messages that remind us of the propaganda against Jews of the last century. Barrera was fired by production company Spyglass Media Group, although later we heard claims that they had simply decided not to renew her contract, which is a bit different from firing her.
Jenna Ortega has taken much the same path on social media. Shortly after Barrera’s firing, we learned that Ortega would not be returning for the sequel. We don’t know why Jenna Ortega left “Scream 7,” but many believe the departure was due to her busy schedule (and it’s pretty damn busy!) and not Jenna Ortega’s anti-Israel messages. laterit was claimed that her role in the seventh film was supposed to be limited anyway, and Spyglass decided to end the relationship a few months before the official announcement.
Sydney Prescott is back in Scream 7!
Neve Campbell, aka Sidney Prescott, is perhaps the name most associated with “Scream.”“ So when she got a relatively minor role in “Scream 5“ and was completely absent from the sixth film due to her (very justified) protest regarding the low salary she received, or as she puts it: “an offer that did not correspond to the value I brought to the series”.
Campbell announced his return to the franchise in March 2024. Campbell shared a photo of the script with his name on it. “It has always been a pleasure and an honor to play Sidney in The Scream. movies,“ she wrote on social media. “My appreciation for these films and what they have meant to me has never wavered. I am very happy and proud to say that I have been asked, in the most respectful way, to bring Sidney back to the screen, and I couldn’t be more thrilled!!!”.
Who will I be in Scream 7?
We might have been even more excited to learn that Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox), who in this writer’s opinion was treated somewhat problematically in the sixth film, will also be returning. Shortly after Campbell’s announcement, was announced that there were also discussions with Cox. “I am not officially registered,“ she admitted in an interview with Variety last September. “I’m not, but there will be a ‘Scream 7.“
We also heard about discussions with Patrick Dempsey, who played Detective Kincaid in the third film. will be part of the cast of “Scream 7”. However, there is still no news about this.
The screenwriter assumes the role of director
If you were thinking about the drama behind “Scream 7“ passed over the director’s chair, think again. It has long been announced that the directors of the fifth and sixth films in the franchise, Matt Bettinelli-Olfin and Tyler Gillette (“Ready or Not”, the first “V/H/S” film), will not direct the seventh installment, but will only serve as executive producers.
The reins of leadership have been given to the great Christopher Landon (two “Heapy Death Day“ films, as well as “Freak“ and “The Scout’s Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse”). He nevertheless withdrew from the project in December 2023 for reasons which are not clear but which could be linked to the previous wave of departures. “I guess now is as good a time as any to announce that I officially left Scream 7 weeks ago,” he wrote on social media. “This will disappoint some and delight others. It was a dream job turned nightmare. And my heart breaks for everyone involved. Everyone. But it’s time to move on. I have nothing.
Production continued with Kevin Williamson, the man who essentially created Ghostface by writing the script for the first two films in the franchise (as well as “I Know What You Did Last Summer,“ the entertaining “The Faculty”, the disappointing “The Curse”“ and the surprising Covid-19 slasher “Sick”). Williamson also produced the third film in the franchise, produced and wrote the screenplay for the fourth film, and served as executive producer on the fifth film. Williamson is one of the people most associated with Scream, although his directorial experience behind the camera is limited and includes the ill-fated Teaching Mrs. Tingle in 1999 with Helen Mirren and Katie Holmes. It will be interesting to see if he is up to the challenge.
As for the fifth and sixth films, the storyline will be to be written by the duo James Vanderbilt (“Zodiac“ and the two beloved “Murder Mystery“ films with Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston) and Guy Busick (“Ready or Not”, “Abigail”).
Scream 7 Plot: Meet the Prescotts
It’s still unclear what exactly will happen in the plot of “Scream 7,” but we have some clues. Reportedly, the film will deal with Sidney Prescott’s family trying to recover from the murders that happened a few decades earlier, and probably also the return of Ghostface, whoever he is won’t be this time.
According to the latest rumors about what will “Scream 7”, the film will include two storylines: the first will focus on Sidney and his immediate surroundings of Woodsboro, and the second on Sidney’s new family, focusing on one (or two) girls. Rumors appeared on social networks that this girl to be played by young actress Samara Lee, who played the girl Annabelle (Bee) – yes, the one who was killed in a car accident and possessed by an evil demon – in the “Annabelle: Creation” films“ And “Annabelle comes home“). We might receive confirmation regarding this casting soon.
Is there a trailer for Scream 7?
A trailer for “Scream 7“ hasn’t been released yet, so if you come across such a video on YouTube, know that it’s entirely fake, in the annoying way fake trailers that include fools and scenes from previous films are created.
Here, for example, is a trailer that looks great and which the creator reports took eight months of work and the use of professionals such as voice artists, except it’s entirely fake.
When is Scream 7 coming out?
If you miss Ghostface and want to see familiar characters again, you have to wait a while. As Neb Campbell and Kevin Williamson recently shared on social media, the film will hit screens in the United States on February 7, 2026. They chose to announce the release date of “Scream 7” with an image — which looks a bit like AI, to be honest — in which a knife marks the date on a calendar with several bloodstains.

We will bring you more “Scream 7”” news Soon.
