Lucia Granja: a new editor of the scariest things! Cinemax

The Scariest Things is proud to announce the arrival of our new editor, Lucia Granja! Enough with all these old people, let’s bring in some young blood!

Lucia is a recent Occidental College graduate, Class of 2025, who has a particular fondness for international horror films and all things vampire and zombie related.

Finding herself turning almost every college essay into a deep dive into one horror movie or another, she joined The Scariest Things to delve even deeper into the weird and wacky stories behind your favorite horror films. Lucia Granja is going to tear the genre apart and (hopefully) put it back together with her new section “Deep Cut Horror Takes.”

ATMOSFa! Those!

The Scariest Things aims to lead Lucia into creating more in-depth essays on the meanings and symbolism inherent in the trends and tropes of the horror genre. Stay tuned for thoughtful analysis from an emerging authority on horror.

Lucia wrote her senior thesis, “Watching the Sunset: Imperialist Discourses of Other Religions in White Zombie (1932), The Wicker Man (1973) and Midsommar (2019)”, for which she received top marks from the Department of Religious Studies at Occidental College. She also wrote a collegiate article, “Historical Memory and Justice in Guatemala in La Llorona (2019).” If you would like to read these articles, let us know! I think Lucia offered their availability. This is some pretty deep food for thought.

My friends, she may be overqualified for blog journalism! That said, we’re thrilled to have writers like her and Joseph Perry contributing to our work. We believe in a multitude of voices in our work. What scares us makes us more attentive to the world around us, and we aim to bring this type of analysis to our blog visitors.
