Plot, cast, release date, etc. Cinemax
Have you missed the superficial but funny jokes that make up the scenes of familiar horror films of recent years? Then you’ll probably be happy that more than 25 years after the first film and 13 years after the fifth film, the horror parody “Scary Movie” returns next year – to be more precise, January 12, 2026.
So, what do we know about “Scary Movie 6,” who will be returning to it (for now, mainly the Wayans brothers) and can you guess which movies we’ll be laughing at now?
Scary Movie 6 Cast: The Wayans Brothers Are Back Together
If you grew up with the “Scary Movie” films, at least the first ones, the first names that come to mind are those of actresses like Anna Faris or Regina Hall, who have starred in almost every film in the franchise (the first four, in this case).
However, behind this successful franchise are, to a large extent, the Wayans brothers. More precisely, in the meantime, Marlon and Shawn Wayans, who starred in the first two films and were also part of the writers and producers, have already announced their return. Also participating is older brother, Keenan Ivory Wayans, who is expected being part of the screenwriters but not yet directing, unlike the first two films in the franchise.
Confused? Here is a brief explanation of the history of the very large Wayans family in today’s context. Keenan Ivory Wayans, as mentioned, directed many of the brothers’ collaborations: “Scary Movie” (2000), “Scary Movie 2” (2001), “White Chicks” (2004), and “Little Man” (2006) in which he also joined his brothers in writing and producing work. Since then, he has disappeared a bit, mainly from a cinematographic point of view, but in “Scary Movie 6” we see him writing the screenplay with his brother Marlon and Rick Alvarez, who was a producer on some of those films.
Marlon Wayans – the actor, comedian, screenwriter and producer – we remember him as “Shorty”, or more precisely the brother of Brenda (Regina Hall) in the first two “Scary Movie” films (and, as mentioned, one of the writers and part of the production team). The truth is that his career is still alive, although it is quite controversial. We’ve seen him in a reasonably limited number of serious roles, such as in Darren Aronofsky’s masterpiece “Requiem for a Dream” (although the scariest drama film of all time) and in a few more or less average action films (“GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra”, “Dungeons & Dragons”,» “Heat”).
Mostly, we know Marlon Wayans best as a comedic actor in parodies, especially horror films. Alongside the “Horror Film“ films, he was also seen in the comedy “A Haunted House“ (2013) and its sequel, “A Haunted House 2“ (2014) – Found Footage-style parodies of ghost films such as “Paranormal Activity,» “The Conjuring,» “Annabella,“ and more. These films were reasonable but quite mediocre in terms of quality – well, there’s not much to expect in this context of films including rape by a ghost or sex in several positions with the Annabelle doll. They haven’t achieved iconic status like the “Scary Movie.”“ films but grossed reasonable sums of around $85 million in total. There’s nothing to write home about Marlon Wayans’ parody of ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’“ films, this time under the unsurprising name of “Fifty Shades of Black”,“ mainly because we haven’t seen it and it’s not a horror movie (I hope).
Marlon Wayans responded to the announcement of the upcoming film in a viral post on X, in which he wrote: “WE’RE BACK!!! After almost 20 years, the Wayans brothers are finally going gives the fans what they ask for… a return to the SCARY MOVIE franchise! We can’t wait to have fun on the big screen again.
And what about Shawn Wayans? In his case too, we see that he went in other directions after the success of “Scary Movie“ and “Scary Movie 2”, in which he plays Ray Wilkins, one of Sydney Campbell’s (Anna Faris) classmates. Beyond the somewhat less successful collaborations with the brothers, he hasn’t been seen in too many significant television or film roles over the past decade. and so.
We still don’t know who will direct the film, and above all, who the other actors in “Scary Movie 6” will be. Will we see Anna Faris and Regina Hall again?
When is Scary Movie 6 coming out?
“Scary Movie 6” release date“ on screens around the world is June 12, 2026. Of course, things can change in that long, but that’s the scheduled date for now.
Paramount Pictures will distribute the film worldwide under a cooperative agreement with Miramax.
What can we expect from Horror Movie 6?
It depends on what you’re looking for. The “Scary Movie” films ranged from relatively successful (especially the first two) to bad (especially “Scary Movie 4).“ and “Scary Movie 5”), but still remained a treat for many horror fans.
These films were something of a “reunion” of some of the most important horror films of those years, with some scenes becoming cult classics, like Carmen Electra’s parody of the opening scene of “Scream”, the disturbing “Michael Jackson” scene parodying “The Others” and some other crazy scenes featuring cats, wheelchairs or stuntmen dressed as Ghostface and saying something like “Whats Upppp”.
Here is a video with some memorable scenes from the “Scary Movie” films:
Although the films received mixed reviews at best, they did quite well at the box office and collectively grossed nearly $900 million. The highest-grossing film in the franchise remains the first, produced on a budget of approximately $19 million and having grossed approximately $278 million to date. This amount could increase further as the expected screening of “Scary Movie 6” approaches, with marathons and screenings of the franchise’s films.
Horror Movie 6 Plot
We don’t yet know much about plot of the film (at least to the extent that these films have a plot) and what East “Scary Movie 6” based on. However, rumors on various sites are already talking about the icon in the making Megan, the Art the Clown films, the “Conjuring“ films, Ari Aster films (such as “Hereditary“ and “Midsommar”), and more.
