Synopsis

Daniel and Robin find it difficult to start a family. As an alternative, they promote Kathelia, a sweet girl with a troubled past. Almost immediately, their world begins to tilt laterally. The more they settle in their new life together, the more clearly it becomes that the traumatic baggage of Katheria are much more than anyone who expected.

Despite what was probably a tight budget, The other It looks sharp. Cinematography and lighting are impressive, creating an atmosphere that feels both intimate and disturbing. Several locations, interior and exterior scenes make the film larger, larger.

The practical effects are at the front and at the center, with intelligently staged sequences that sell rampant strangeness without the need for heavy CGI. Etheredge tightens the maximum tension of each shadow and corridor.

Launch and story

Avangeline Friedlander does a remarkable work bearing the role of Kathelia without almost no dialogue, and her silent presence becomes one of the most disturbing characteristics of the film. His scenes with Lily D. Moore in particular present the disturbing chemistry between the two.

Dylan McTee and Olivia Macklin anchor the film with strong towers as adoptive parents whose life is grown gradually, while Shawnee Smith adds a veteran horror flair as an eccentric lizzie. Certain character decisions are leaning towards illogical, but when history sinks into disarticulated madness, you are too caught.

Summary

The other is a unique and unpredictable entry into the slow combustion horror cannon. If you like films that come slowly to a boil, ignore all the notes and criticism (except this one, of course) and enter with an open mind. With strong performances, inventive practical effects and a story that turns into a gloriously wild territory, Paul Ethedge’s film can divide the public, but horror fans who love their fear with a side of surrealist madness will find a lot to love. This one is too fun to miss.
